Description

Cold pilgering is a longitudinal cold-rolling process that reduces the diameter and wall thickness of metal tube in one process step. Depending on the material, the cold pilger process achieves cross-section reductions of more than 90 percent in a single working cycle.

Cold pilgering is a rolling process for metal tubes that reduces diameters and wall thicknesses. THE PROCESS Located inside the tube is a stationary mandrel (1) which tapers in the rolling direction. This is attached to a long mandrel bar (2) which is secured in, and rotated by, a thrust block. Two dies (3) "form" the tubular stock in the same way that a rolling pin rolls out pastry. These two dies are mounted in a reciprocating saddle (4). Their drive pinions mesh with two stationary racks. That's how the dies rotate back and forth in synchronization with the reciprocating saddle. The saddle, in turn, is moved back and forth by a crank drive in the same way as a piston in the engine of a motor car.

Material

Presently we make the sink roll and stabilizing rolls in material of high quality SUS316L.For high requested end user, we propose coating tungsten carbide and ceramic on the surface of sink roll and stabilizing rolls by HVOF.

Production Process

We produce the pilger die rolls by premium ESR ingot material. According to the drawing design, we forge and anneal the ingot into roll blank. Then we make a rough machining on the roll blank. In order to ensure high strength performance and hardness uniformity, we adopt vacuum furnace for the heat treatment. As the high precision of the seamless pipes, it requests especial precise of grooves on die roll. We equip two CNC grinding mill from SMS Meer. We promise an excellent quality for our customers.

Application

The cold pilger mill are widely used in stainless steel industrial, ferritic steels, low alloy steels, Incoloy, Zircaloy, Copper and Titanium Alloys.
