Description
Forged Back up Roll is an important part in the mill plants. It is used to support the work roll and intermediate roll to prevent the quality problem of the plate and strip due to the work roll deformation. A high quality back up roll is with excellent surface hardness and hardness uniformity, deep hardening layer, strong and tough in roll core. The performance of high quality back up roll is great in wear resistance, anti-spalling and anti-accident. The Back-up roll is applied in plate rolling mills, hot strip rolling mills, cold rolling mills and skin pass rolling mills.

Production
1. Melting and Ingot Casting.
The steel melting is carried out in the Electrical Furnace and the ingots are casted by Vacuum Casting.
2. Forging
The forging press is carried out on our forging machine. Our forging machine is up to 19500 tons and can meet all sizes of back up roll requested in steel plants.
3. Heat Treatment
It is necessary to remove the stress of the back up roll after forging. Annealing process is taken in the furnace.
4. Rough Machining
5. Surface Quenching
The surface quenching is one of the most important and critical process during back up roll production. Hardness, hardness uniformity and hardening layer must be well controlled in the process. Also, any crack or failure must be prevented as well.
6. Finishing Machining
High precision and CNC machines can guarantee the precision and surface quality on roll body.
Material
The hardness and hardness depth of back up roll are developing as the hot rolling mill and cold rolling mill becoming higher speed, bigger size and higher precision. The material of back up roll is being studied and researched as well. At the beginning, the material is with high carbon and 2% Chrome, then middle carbon and 3% Chrome material came out and now 5% Chrome are more popular for the steel plant due to its better performance in the life time, anti-fatigue and anti-accident.
